Bruce Momjian: Will Postgres live forever? – Postgres Index Types

We have a lot of complicated index types. Tomorrow, I’ll be giving a talk about indexing and Postgres. So if you’re curious about how these indexing types work, and why they’re useful for non relational data, make sure you come to my talk tomorrow morning. And the reason it’s important is because BTree is good, but BTree is only good for certain types of data. And if you’re doing something like JSON, or full text search or GIS, you need other indexing types. And because Postgres was designed to be extendable, it’s designed with these additional indexing types, and again, makes Postgres very easy to move into new data needs.
